East End Radiology, P.C. follows the guidelines set fourth by New York State Public Health Law Section 17 and 18.

Public Health Law States:

X-rays are the property of the facility/provider. The patient and/or other medical providers have a right to have reasonable access to the x-rays. Accordingly, copies may be made or original films may be examined at the facility/location where services were rendered.

Either the physician or the facility incurring the expense of providing copies of x-rays, and medical records pursuant to public health law may impose a reasonable charge to be paid by the person requesting the release and deliverance of such records. However, the physician/facility may not impose a charge for copying an original mammogram.

Current guidelines in New York State for film and record storage require the facility/provider to maintain adult records for a minimum of seven years, mammogram records for ten years and minor records to age 18 for a three-year minimum. After such time a facility/provider may destroy all records.

As such East End Radiology’s policy is as follows:

A patient may request copies of their x-rays. There is a $6.00 per sheet copy charge. This cost is simply to cover our raw material expense associated with the duplication process.

And/or

A patient may temporarily borrow their original films. In an attempt to ensure their safe return a $150.00 deposit is required. Cash, check or credit card can provide the deposit. All cash, checks and credit card information is held for two weeks. If the films haven’t been returned by the agreed time frame (normally two-weeks) than and only than will credit cards be debited and cash/checks deposited. In the event that you won’t be able to return the films by the mutually agreed time, you need to notify our office. If you fail to do so your deposit will be processed. If you return your films late and your deposit has already been processed, your deposit will be returned less a 20% surcharge. Furthermore, you will need to sign a release stating that East End Radiology has temporarily released your original medical records to you and as such you release East End Radiology from any and all legal obligations should you not return the films.

Thank you,

Tracey Scioscia, Practice Manager
